the trainers at my gym always stress the importance of consuming protein right after a workout (and within 45 minutes of working out). and while they advocate guzzling protein in a powdered, inorganic, non-food, animal derived form, i choose to get my protein from things i can pronounce. that are sources of REAL food. and that my grandmother (and insides!) would recognize as food. pretty simple, yes? hope you enjoy as much as i did!
Post Workout Green Smoothie
- 3 small bundles of spinach
- 3 large kale leaves & stems
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 1 pear
- 1 lime
- water (as needed)
core the pear. place all ingredients in a Blendtec or other blender and process until smooth. store in an airtight container (i always use mason jars) and toss in your gym bag. consume immediately after working out (:
*as with most food, i try to buy organic whenever possible.
i even have some blue, yes BLUE, kale in the fridge.. the joys of farmers markets!
